The Hon David Bartlett, Premier for Tasmania and Minister for Education and Skills, officially opened the 37th Annual Isolated Children's Parents' Association (ICPA) National Conference at the Hobart Function & Conference Centre today.

In his address to conference Premier Bartlett acknowledged that
"Tasmanian students living in remote areas of the State deserve the same quality education as their city counterparts".

ICPA's core business is access to educational opportunities for rural and remote students across Australia. During the two days delegates will debate motions relating to issues of vital importance to their children's education.

Motions relating to Boarding Schools and School Term Hostels were put to the floor this morning. Mr Greg Wells of the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations, Canberra, is in attendance and has been able to answer some of the questions delegates have in relation to these issues.
