Welcome to the Lord Howe Island page.

Lord Howe Island is 700km north-east of Sydney. It is a small but exceptionally beautiful island in the Tasman Sea. Although it has been permanently inhabited since 1834, the population is approximately 300 residents.

The Lord Howe Island branch of ICPA was formed in 1990, with seven family memberships. We now have 10 family memberships. One of the highlights for our small branch was to co-host the State Conference held in Port Macquarie in 1995. Our geographic isolation from the mainland and the small island population mean that the local children do not have access to many of the educational facilities and opportunities that are available to mainland children. For this reason, many parents choose to send their children to secondary schools on the mainland - most attend boarding schools, but some stay with relatives and attend day schools. This year there are fourteen students at mainland schools and five students attend correspondence school with Camden Haven Distance Education Centre.
